About the Project

What is a Park Master Plan?

As the city continues to change and grow, park improvements, new parks, and open spaces are needed for our community. Your City, Your Parks invites citizens to share their vision for the coming years by participating in the creation of a new Park Master Plan. With assistance from a consultant experienced in park planning, the City will gather public input to develop a comprehensive Park Master Plan that includes an assessment of existing parks, open spaces, and trails that is reflective of the community needs and preferences for future parks and recreation.

Why do we need a new Park Master Plan?

The current Park Master Plan was adopted by City Council in 1996. With a majority of those goals now accomplished, it is the perfect time to set our sights on the future. A lot has changed since 1996! Walking and biking remain popular in our community but new needs for inclusive parks or sports such as pickleball have increased in demand. Your City, Your Parks will seek feedback from citizens on those needs and preferences. Specific guidelines will be developed for new subdivisions, establishing fair and consistent polices and requirements for the dedication of land for neighborhood parks. The plan will establish funding priorities for improvements to existing parks and trails. It is important that the parks plan reflect our community values.
